How do you correct someone without invalidating their practice?
I study tarot history a bit and recently told someone that some popular systems don't have much historical basis before the 19th century. She got really upset and said I was gatekeeping. I tried to say her way is still valid, but it didn't land well. How do you share corrections without making people feel attacked?

I lead with 'this worked differently before the 1900s' instead of 'that's wrong'. same info, zero fight
hard lesson: people ask for sources but often want validation. learning to tell the difference saved me
history matters but it's not a weapon. the moment it becomes one, you've lost the conversation
got called a gatekeeper once for citing actual books. now I only share sources when someone asks twice
try 'the cool thing is this is newer than people think' — curiosity framing beats correction framing
her practice can be valid AND the history can be true. those aren't in conflict unless you make them one
for some people tarot is spiritual identity. you can't fact-check someone's identity without them feeling attacked
I keep a sources list in my notes now. genuinely curious people get it, otherwise I let it go 🌙
